Mutilation
Mutilation is a term used to describe a very painful activity that many young girls across the world experience. This term basically describe the removal of clitoris and in some cases the entire outer lips and inner part of vagina are stitched or stapled together where a small hole is left for urine and menstruation.. In South Africa and across cultures this ritual is performed differently. My findings states that a vagina can be stitched together permanently.
Doing my research I have came across different factors that favours this practise in our societies.
* Tradition
* Religion
* Sex trading
Just a few to mention. For me it is quite clear that young women and girls are manipulated into believing that this will assist them into finding the right man and have a successful marriage.This practise is believed to protect young girls from early sexual interactions which might be a good reason but the issue is the total removal of feelings and genital comfort-ability.It is meant to conserve young girls purity for marriage. Usually girls especially in rural areas are taught everyday how to be good obedient wives one day but the sad part is that most of these girls do not even realize their potential and only see themselves as mothers and wives. This ritual forces girls to be their husband treasures and become what a man can honour and cherish for the rest of his life. When a man has paid a bridal price ( Lobola ) he typically owns that woman. It is true even today our parents are very conservative about such things because they fear that we might find out what they went through so indeed it is sad to hear that a four year old has been subjected to such rituals.
I am not against this practise but my research was about trying to calculate the exact extent of this practise in our societies.
